The latest treatment to define the jawline

A defined jawline has become the trending aesthetic vogue. The jaw is the scaffolding for the face, and is a sign of youth and vitality (and in men of strength and virility), so it’s little wonder a more chiselled jawline is a desired facial feature.

As we age, the shape of our face can change. Leading aesthetic expert Dr Munir Somji explains more: “A sagging jawline can be a sign of ageing, while a weak jawline may be due to genetics. Both can severely affect someone’s confidence. A defined, strong jawline can lift the facial features, and make someone look more vital.”

“Treating an under-defined or sagging jawline historically would mean invasive surgery such as liposuction or a face-lift”, says Dr Somji. “Fortunately, now aesthetic treatments can offer a non-surgical solution to this issue.”

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) dermal fillers can be used to restructure and define the jawline, lifting the facial features and giving a more youthful appearance.

“However, incorrectly placed, too much, or the wrong type of dermal filler can create a more heavily weighted jawline than the patient wanted”, says Dr Somji. In most cases a heavy jawline is a direct result of inexperienced clinicians treating with too much of the wrong type of product.”

“Successful jawline definition treatments are very achievable, but careful application is needed”, explains Dr Somji. “Make sure you go to a medically trained healthcare professional, who understands the facial anatomy and techniques needed to treat the jawline. Look at their previous cases to make sure they have experience successfully treating this area. It’s also worth investigating the dermal filler that is to be used for the treatment.

“I love utilising new HA filler MaiLi”, says Dr Somji. “It has a great *projection capacity with the added benefit of mouldability for the jawline without compromising elasticity and natural expression.”

MaiLi’s soft and springlike gel is a new HA filler where **less product means greater fullness and flexibility, allowing for natural movement.

MaiLi helps rejuvenate, contour and sculpt the face, while acting like soft, flexible and elastic skin tissue, working with the face’s natural movement and expression. This means you will experience soft and supple skin, compared with more rigid or restrictive fillers.

MaiLi’s HA fillers also replenish lost moisture and healthy vitality from the loss of collagen and elastin, reflecting natural movement and expression.
